One new species of hangingfly from Bolivia, Bittacus vazdemelloi sp. nov. (Mecoptera: Bittacidae), with an identification key to South American species of Bittacus Latreille

A new species of Bittacus Latreille, 1805, is herein described and illustrated, Bittacus vazdemelloi sp. nov., based on two specimens collected in Buena Vista, Santa Cruz, Bolivia. This is only the third species of hangingfly recorded from the country and the twenty-seventh species of Bittacus for South America. A recently published identification key for the Brazilian species of Bittacus is expanded to include all South American species of the genus, and a distribution map is presented.
