摘要
We demonstrate a new scheme for microwave vacuum electron-beam-based oscillators based on an electron beam interacting with four degenerate electromagnetic modes in a slow wave structure (SWS), a condition we call super synchronous operation. The four mode super synchronous regime is obtained by the degenerate band edge (DBE) condition in the dispersion diagram of a cold periodic SWS. This regime features a substantially lower starting-oscillation beam current, by orders of magnitude, compared to conventional backward wave oscillators.
