摘要
We have been developing a new type of liquid Xe scintillation detector for the MEG experiment. The purpose of the MEG experiment is to search for lepton flavor violating mu -> e gamma decay with the sensitivity of 10(-14) branching ratio. A new detector will he installed at PSI using a world most intense beam of continuous stopped muon with a rate of 10(8)/s. Liquid scintillation calorimeter with liquid Xe was chosen as the photon detector because of its fast response, high light output yield and high density. Until now, various test experiments using two prototypes of Xe detector with 10 and 100 liters scale were performed and the energy, tinting and position resolutions have been evaluated with gamma-rays. I will summarize these test experiments with different two prototypes. Especially, at last autumn, a comprehensive test experiment for the energy and the timing calibration was done at PSI, in Switzerland. Using two gammas front pi(-)+p ->pi(0)+n, pi(0) -> 2 gamma s, the energy resolution could be measured by monochromatic gamma around 55MeV by tagging opposite gamma. The energy linearity could be also tested by using 55, 83 and 129 MeV gamma s. All of these preliminary results, performances of the prototypes are briefly described here.
