INSTRUMENTATION IN THE WORK OF GRACIELA PARASKEVAIDIS (1940-2017): MUSICOLOGICAL WRITINGS AND COMPOSITIONAL PRODUCTION

In her catalog of works, composer, musicologist, and teacher Graciela Paraskevaidis (Buenos Aires, 1940 - Montevideo, 2017) presents a variety of instrumental scorings that has attracted the attention of various scholars. Nonetheless, existing studies of her instrumentation form part of broader analyses of specific works or groups of works that discuss the topic together with other aspects such as structure or compositional technique, rather than separately. This work studies musicological writings by Graciela Paraskevaidis about other composers' formations and instrumental treatments. The opinions expressed in her writings and analyses are reconciled with her compositional production in order to try to understand the reasons for this heterogeneity in instrumental materials. From Paraskevaidis's catalog, instrumental formations as well as techniques developed for instruments and voices will be analyzed.
