Solubility of oxides in the BaCl2-KCl-NaCl (0.43:0.29:0.28) melt at 700°C

摘要
The solubility products of MgO, NiO, CoO, MnO, ZnO, and CdO in the BaCl2-KCl-NaCl (0.43:0.29:0.28) melt at 700 degreesC were determined by potentiometric titration using a membrane oxygen electrode. The solubility of any oxide is about two orders of magnitude higher than that in rile KCl-NaCl (0.5:0.5) melt. The basicity index of BaCl2-KCl-NaCl melts was determined to be 2.01 +/- 0.3. The high acidity of Ba2+ compared to K+ and Na+ makes unpractical the use of barium-containing Lux-Flood bases in melts based on alkali metal halides (except for Lif).
