摘要
Public transportation in cities in the U.S. is experiencing a period of regrowth but may be unsustainable and blind to community needs and policies. While much of the public transportation research is focusing on subways and light rail, bus systems are often the only financially feasible transportation options for many mid-level cities. Smart city and smart transportation technologies can help to improve public bus transportation, but these technologies can also ignore the community, policy, and environmental issues. This literature review identifies applicable research in smart transportation technologies with consideration to aspects of technology, policy, community, and environment. The review finds that recognition of each aspect is not yet equally valued. Each aspect needs to be equally valued and addressed in order to create long term technology solutions that address policy, community, and environment.
