Affinity learning - Fostering critical thinking skills online

摘要
The Affinity Learning System was developed by a group of researchers at the University of Nebraska to leverage the skill and knowledge of instructors to provide individualized learning support for students. Using Web-based presentation and assessment, Affinity tracks student progress and activity and provides detailed feedback to both the student and instructor. As initial Affinity-based lessons were being developed and tested, it was discovered that Affinity is also an excellent research tool that provides insight into student learning strategies and misconceptions. Affinity has been used to present lessons in mathematical modeling, medical education, and geosciences. Despite its potential, Affinity lesson creation is challenged by the complexity of decomposing lessons into interconnected components. This chapter reports on progress to date and anticipates future research and development.
