摘要
Call the doctor! The electro-rheological (ER) effect of a silsesquioxane liquid crystal (LC) is investigated. The spherical shape of the LC plays a key role in avoiding the entanglement between neighboring molecules, which leads to a quick response to an applied electric field. The silsesquioxane LC shows a large ER response to an applied electric field in which the generated shear stress is more than 50 kPa (see picture). © 2010 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
