Recent biographies for nineteenth-century Spain

Recently, the field of Spanish history has witnessed the appearance of an array of fine biographies of several men and women of the nineteenth century. This is part of a general trend in which many scholars have reassessed, legitimised and reflected theoretically on the historiographical practices of the genre. Among the various interesting options, some have proposed the term historical biography. By addressing and examining some of the most interesting works, this article examines what could be interpreted as the normalisation in the use of biography within historical approaches to nineteenth-century Spain.
