摘要
We propose the routing and wavelength assignment in WDM network based on genetic algorithm. Two transmission impairments are added to the usual set of routing constraints. They are polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). Through simulation, we find substantial savings in terms of equipment cost, optimizing the placement of wavelength converters and PMD compensators. Also, the proposed technique limits the number of cascaded amplifiers and reduces the number of wavelength conversions enhancing the optical signal quality.
