摘要
In Star Wars - Episode II: Attack of the Clones, George Lucas presents a republic in erosion by the strengthening of its authoritarian and populist leader. It is Chancellor Palpatine, who manipulates the fears of the population and the political class to expand his powers and, ultimately, to become an autocrat. With the film opening between the September 11 attacks and the Invasion of Iraq, the filmmaker's obvious reference is his own historical context, in which the fear of terror and Islam serves as a basis for barbarism and the restriction of rights. However, Palpatine's rise has many similarities with the strengthening of leaders, ideologies and authoritarian policies of the present, almost twenty years after the release of the film.
