Characterization of stress corrosion crack growth in austenitic stainless steel under variable loading in small- and large-scale yielding conditions

摘要
To investigate the factors that influence stress corrosion crack growth, crack growth testing was conducted using type 304 stainless steel in a tetrathionate solution under various applied stress intensity factors in small- and large-scale yielding conditions. The crack growth rate increased with increasing equivalent stress intensity factor, as defined by the J integral, and its gradient, and we found that the crack growth could be characterized by these values. Then, we developed an equation to evaluate the crack growth as a function of equivalent stress intensity factor and its gradient.
