Pressure-induced cubic-cubic transition in 1,2-bis(4′-n-tetradecyloxybenzoyl)hydrazine

The effect of pressure on the Im3m cubic phase of 1,2-bis(4'-n-tetradecyloxybenzoyl)hydrazine (BABH-14) was studied under pressures up to about 80 MPa using a wide-angle X-ray diffractometer equipped with a high-pressure system. The Im3m type cubic phase is held at pressures up to about 17 MPa and then transformed into the Ia3d type cubic phase under higher pressures. The Im3m-Ia3d cubic transition is reversible during an isothermal pressure cycling. Applying higher pressure induces a high-pressure smectic C phase.
