An exact constant-potential coulometric method for determination of mercury in Hg-Ba-Cu-O high-temperature superconductors

A coulometric method for determination of Hg(II) in the range of 6 - 30 mi: in 0.1-M HNO3 background solution at a constant potential of 0.2 V in the presence of a 14-fold molar excess of copper and 6-fold molar excess of barium on the working electrode (TMP-l-grade graphite cloth) is described. A technique to account for the effect of copper(II) ions on analysis results is proposed. The method is tested on model solutions with an error of determination not in excess of 0.2% (S-r = 0.001) and on Hg-Ba-Cu-O high-temperature superconductor specimens (with s(r) not in excess of 0.002).
