Synthesis and characterization of organotin(IV) complexes of 2-phenylphenol

摘要
The n-dibutyl and triphenyltin(IV) complexes of composition n-Bu2SnCl2-x(OAr)(x) and Ph3Sn(OAr) (where OAr = OC6H4-Ph-2; x = 1 and 2) have been synthesized in quantitative yields by the reaction of their respective chlorides, n-Bu2SnCl2 and Ph3SnCl with trimethylsilyl derivative of 2-phenylphenol in carbon tetrachloride. On the other hand, the good yields of the complexes of composition Me2SnCl2-x(OAr)(x) and n-Bu3Sn(OAr) have been obtained from the reaction of Me2SnCl2 and n-Bu3SnCl with 2-phenylphenol in the presence of Et2NH in tetrahydrofuran. The characterization of the complexes has been accomplished by elemental analyses, molar conductance measurements, molecular weight determinations and IR, H-1, C-13, Sn-119 NMR and mass spectral methods. The thermal behaviour of the complexes has been studied by TG-DTA techniques. The reactions of parent complexes with nitrogenous bases viz. imidazole and benzimidazole have yielded 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 molecular adducts authenticated by physicochemical and IR spectral data.
