Small bowel metastasis due to lung cancer -: a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding

BACKGROUND: In cases of gastrointestinal bleeding, one has to be aware of bleeding from the small bowel if no bleeding source can be identified by gastroscopy and colonoscopy. METHODS: The clinical presentation, investigations, and the therapy of a 44-year-old male presented with gastrointestinal bleeding due to small bowel metastasis of a large-cell bronchial carcinoma(NSCLC), which was radically resected five months earlier is described. RESULTS: Forty months after resection there is no evidence of tumour recurrence. CONCLUSIONS: Our presentation confirms the concept that also for completely resectable (R0) metastases of NSCLC, an operative therapy should be considered.
