摘要
Hyperuricaemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been less well investigated in sub-Saharan Africans. Our study of 438 patients found that alcohol intake, body mass index 25kg/m(2), hydrochlorothiazide use, statin use, diabetic retinopathy and glomerular filtration rate <60mL/min/1.73m(2) were independently positively associated with hyperuricaemia; whereas smoking reduced this risk. Hyperuricaemia is strongly associated with some modifiable factors, diabetic complications and certain drugs. Our results suggest that further studies should evaluate the potential cost-benefit of screening for hyperuricaemia in type 2 diabetes.
