Influence of the heterogeneity of AISI-321 steel on its pitting in chloride-containing media

摘要
We propose a phenomenological model of the dependence of the critical temperature of pitting (CTP) of AISI-321 steel on its heterogeneity in chloride-containing media. On the basis of results of investigations and the analysis of the available literature data, we use the quantitative volume of nonmetallic inclusions V participating in the process of pitting in AISI-321 steel as a parameter of its heterogeneity. It is shown that the dependence of the CTP of steel on the index V is rectilinear. The results of regression analysis enable us to establish the quantitative CTP-f(V) dependences for aqueous solutions with pH 4-8 and concentrations of chlorides of 350, 400, 500, 550, and 600 mg/liter.
