Simulium (Gomphostilbia) epauletum sp. nov., is described based on the larval, pupal and adult stages, collected from Hainan Island, China. This new species is assigned to the ceylonicum-group of the subgenus Gomphostilbia, and is closely related to Simulium (G.) jignfengense An and Long, Simulium (G.) laoshanense Ren, An and Kang, Simulium (G.) asakoae Takaoka and Davies, Simulium (G.) gyorkosae Takaoka and Davies. However, it is distinct in its genital fork of the female and median sclerite of male.
