Short range N-N correlations in nuclei.: A direct measurement via 12C(p,ppn)

We discuss NN short range correlations which were obtained from a triple coincidence experiment C(p,ppn). We determined the quasi-elastic scattering nature of the reaction C(p,2p) at beam momenta of 5.9 and 7.5 GeV/c at 90 degrees C.M.. The momenta of both outgoing protons were measured and yielded the Fermi momenta of the struck target proton in the nucleus. A set of neutron counters were placed at angles ranging from 100 to 130 degrees with respect to the beam. The neutrons momenta were measured by time of flight. We will present data which clearly demonstrate short range NN correlations for nucleon momenta above approximately 220 MeV/c. We will also present preliminary results for the Fermi momentum of the NN pair in the nucleus.
