The complex (Br-C6H4NH3)(3)CdCl5 was prepared. Single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed a novel structure, in which inorganic (CdCl5)(n) helical anion chains are formed by CdCl6 octahedra sharing bridging chlorine atoms, while the organic ammoium cations are bonded along the chains through hydrogen bonds. The complex is stable up to 140 degrees C; phase transition characteristics were investigated by DTA-TGA.
