Plant photosynthesis under conditions of water stress and the protective effect of cytokinins: A review

摘要
The effects of water stress on the photosynthetic system of C-3 and C-4 plant species are reviewed. Water stress was shown to reduce the total chlorophyll content, change the chlorophyll alb ratio, modify chloroplast ultrastructure, inhibit light and dark photosynthetic reactions, decrease the efficiency of photosynthetic CO2 assimilation, and accelerate the senescence of leaves. Cytokinin-induced stimulation of protein synthesis substantially alleviates the negative effects of water stress on plants.
