Raising Consciousness of Critical Media Literacy in the EFL Classroom in China

This paper advocates a tentative reform in the EFL classroom in China, bringing up the importance and possibility of raising critical media literacy awareness among EFL teachers and students. The reform advocated is based on the introduction of critical literacy, combined with emerging media literacy, with a case designed for EFL content teaching. It is also suggested, in this paper, that an EFL teacher can make use of media materials to inspire college students to think critically, and therefore bridge the gap between language education and social practices.
