摘要
Transverse-longitudinal coupling (TLC) manipulation of electrons can be applied for efficient harmonic generation or bunch length compression with a shallow energy modulation or chirp strength when the transverse emittance is small. Here we generalize the analysis and prove two theorems concerning the applications of such coupling schemes, with their implications discussed. The presented work is expected to be useful for the applications of TLC schemes in free-electron lasers and novel light source mechanisms like steady-state microbunching.
