摘要
The Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC) properties are investigated. IPMCs are innovative materials with both actuation and sensing capabilities. Indeed a strip of these materials bends if an electric field is applied across its thickness, while it generates a voltage if mechanically deformed. The physic mechanisms involved with these phenomena are discussed and an electric model regarding the material is presented. The differences between these new materials and other actuators, commonly used in robotic applications, are pointed out. Moreover, a miscellaneous of applications of IPMCs in controlled motion systems are proposed.
