摘要
This article focuses on the importance of integration between Central American universities. It presents the actual human development situation of countries in the region and the challenges imposed upon higher education in building up knowledgeable societies for a demanding and complex world. In this context, the importance of networks is presented as a way to improve universities in the region. The case of the academic network GUCAL XXI (Latin American University Group towards Quality) is discussed as well as the actions and partial results of a project on capacity building which is being developed. Some lessons learnt through the experience of the network are also mentioned.
