Identification and characterization of 16 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the northeast intertidal gooseneck barnacle, Pollicipes polymerus

Sixteen Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms were identified and characterized in the Pacific Northeast intertidal gooseneck barnacle, Pollicipes polymerus. The SNaPshot (TM) Multiplex System was used to genotype 117 adult individuals. The frequency of the rare allele at each locus ranged from 0.02 to 0.39 (> 0.05 for 14 loci). Observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.026 to 0.419 and 0.042 to 0.475, respectively. After Bonferroni corrections for multiple comparisons, three loci deviated from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and two pairs of loci were in linkage disequilibrium. These are the first markers to be developed for P. polymerus and will be used to study reproductive biology of this species.
