Deformation structures of a commercial Al-Mg-Si alloy (6082) processed by equal-channel angular pressing at room temperature were characterized by transmission electron microscopy. Deformation twins, which have never been observed in coarse-grained aluminium, were experimentally confirmed together with numerous other features. The possible roles of twinning and different grain boundary structures on the severe plastic deformation (SPD) mechanisms, including grain refinement, were discussed. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V.
