Brief discussion on government behaviours in enhancing the employability of Chinese migrant workers in construction industry

The task has become increasingly heavy for the construction industry with the rapid growth of national economy and the acceleration of urbanization in our country. The continued transfer of rural labor to the construction area has become a irreversible trend. Meanwhile the demand for highly skilled and qualified migrant workers is demonstrated in both construction industry and urban development. Therefore, enhancing the employability of migrant workers is important not only to the healthy development of construction industry, but also to the urbanization process in China. In this paper, we start by examining the goal of sustainable development in the construction industry and adaptability of migrant workers to city life. This is followed by the building of a migrant employability index system in the aspects of living capacity and productive capacity. Then we analyze in detail the employability of Chinese migrant workers and a series of issues in its enhancement. Finally we explore possible options to enhance the employability of migrant workers from the perspective of governments of the origin and destination of the migrant workers in construction industry.
