摘要
The acetylation polymorphism for N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) is one of the most common genetic variations in the transformation of drugs and chemicals. NAT2 activity shows racial variation, suggesting its importance as a genetic factor. The etiopathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) is considered to be multifactorial, including genetic and environmental factors. We determined the relationship between NAT2 genotypes in patients with PD and AD in a Japanese population. We found that there is no significant difference in the frequency of slow acetylator for NAT2 amongst AD, PD and elderly healthy controls. These results suggest that the NAT2 gene polymorphism is not a genetic risk factor for AD or PD in the Japanese.
