We studied YbBa2Cu3Oy (Yb123) deposited on MgO(100) and SrTiO3(100) substrates by pulsed laser deposition method. In the present work, we discussed thickness dependence of orientation and critical current densities of the Yb123 films. We found that the obtained c-axis oriented Yb123 film with thickness of similar to1 mum showed the excellent superconducting properties, which were T-c = 89.5 K and J(c) = 1.85 MA/cm(2) at 77.3 K. Additionally, the critical current density has been measured for the Yb123 film on MgO and SrTiO3 as a function of the angle of the applied magnetic field B. An additional peak occurred in the case of Bparallel toc-axis applied to the film on MgO. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
