摘要
This research proposes to develop a smart traffic management system that would ameliorate some difficulties encountered daily by road users on a four-side junction in which traffic flow on each side is only in one direction. The system is based on PIC microcontroller that evaluates the traffic density using IR sensors with dynamic timing slots with different levels. Unlike the existing conventional traffic systems, this inculcated a crossbar that would minimize or eliminate traffic violations by impatient road users and to avoid complicating already existing issues. The methodology adopted involves: designing of overall system block model; designing of circuit diagram; flow chart diagram; and writing of program code. When implemented, it would be sensible to longer queues, shorter queues, absence of vehicles, and more, and be able to response to them accordingly, thereby maintaining smooth and easy flow of vehicles on a four-side junction with traffic flow on each side only in one direction. The introduction of crossbar in the system would improve ease of road usage and provide effective traffic management.
