Edgar Chias, Angelica Liddell, and Guillermo Gomez-Pena form a representative cross-section of stage artists from around the globe who have thought incisively, through the medium of their respective crafts, about one of today's most vexing questions: intercultural relations in a time of mass migration. The Mexican playwright (Chias), and Spanish and Chicano performance artists (Liddell, Gomez-Pena) use their works Ternura suite; Y los peces salieron a combatir contra los hombres; Border Brujo-not only to propose ethical models for addressing these challenges. By virtue of the models they foreground, they expose the inherently political and pedagogical nature of the type of performance art that has come to dominate in the postmodern era. They also teach that our own ethical values are something we too perform within the various arenas of our daily interaction. (BAG)
