Crystal growth of Pr1+xBa2-xCu3O7-δ by the solution growth method

Substitution of PI for Ba in Pr1+xBa2-xCu3O7-delta (x=0.05-0.30) single crystals were successfully controlled by the crystal pulling method. The substitution ratios of the grown crystal from average composition in the melt of (a) Pr:Ba:Cu=5:24:71, (b) Pr:Ba:Cu=5:28:67, (c) Pr:Ba:Cu=5:30:65 were x=0.05, 0.15 and 0.30, respectively. These phenomena appear to depend on the tie-line of Pr1+xBa2-xCu3O7-delta/liquid on the isothermal section of Pr11/6-BaO-CuO ternary phase diagram at growth temperature. Furthermore, we proposed a solidification model for this solid solution in the crystal pulling method by assuming local equilibrium, using diffusion coefficients of each cation in the liquid, and considering mass balance.
