摘要：

The article presents historical data characterizing the process of formation and development of state inspection in the education system of the Russian Empire. It is shown how, on the basis of legal acts, the institution of inspection was introduced in individual provinces. The main stages of the development of inspection in education in the pre-revolutionary period are highlighted. The importance of state control for the historical development of education is emphasized.
