Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to penetration of a pancreatic pseudaneurysm into the duodenum -: a case report

Pseudoaneurysms of peripancreatic arteries are a rare complication of pancreatitis. We are reporting about a patient with an inflammatory pseudoaneurysm of a retroduodenal artery penetrating into the duodenum. The patient presented with massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Endoscopic examination revealed a stenosis at the end of the duodenal bulb caused by a hemorrhagic tumor. The diagnosis was made by CT scan, and a successful transcatheter artery embolization with coils was performed. After the intervention, a coil penetrated the duodenal wall. The patient was discharged to be further treated at our outpatient clinic and did not show any signs of illness during the 12 months of follow-up.
