As an independent branch of Contemporary Art, Fashion art emerged in late 1960s in western countries. Although it does not have a long history, it brought infinite imagination and creativity to fashion design. It expressed not only the idea and feeling of the designers, but also predicted the future life style. This article discussed the concept, history and development of the Fashion Art and put emphasis on the characteristics and application of Fashion Art in fashion design. It provided creative direction in terms of construction, texture, color, silhouette and material. Using paper, rope, plastic and metal, designers can explore a new boundary of fashion. Its vigor and glamour brought infinite imagination, inspiration and creativity to fashion design, fashion designers and fashion brands.
