This point of view defends a few ideas about the role of science and its place in policy discourse and decisions. Agreement must be reached on the meaning of the word policy and the need for individual and collective work to reach an "informed opinion". It takes courage to confront what are often seen as right-minded ideas. Why are there so many false ideas? The use of certain concepts may prove dangerous, for example, that of "human nature". As rationalism and the scientific approach are somewhat undermined, resistance is forming through people, scientists, books, and journals. The author seeks only to call for debate and for scientists to take a stand on the subject of this contribution.
