For the phase-out of CFCs ard HCFCs, the introduction of liquid-solid mixtures in secondary loops has become important as alternative solutions in refrigeration systems. Tests were can-led out with a mixture of ice and apr aqueous solution of ethanol called ice slurry. In the first part of the article, the intrinsic thermophysical properties of the fluid are theoretically calculated or deduced from some approaches available in the literature. We give the variations of enthalpy, density, conductivity thermal capacity and viscosity of the mixture as functions of temperature (from 20 degrees C to - 30 degrees C) for different initial concentrations of the alcohol in the solution. For enthalpy variations, the method used for the calculations was validated by art experimental study. The second part of this article with experimental studies of the thermal and rheological behaviour of ice slurry. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd and IIR. All rights reserved.
