摘要
Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) plays a central role in a wide array of cellular functions including control of cell growth and differentiation, embryonic development, wound healing, angiogenesis, and immune regulation. In the gastrointestinal tract. TGF-beta can either promote or suppress inflammation and cancer formation. This report reviews recent data on the role of TGF-beta in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease and how TGF-beta might contribute to the cancer risk associated with chronic inflammation of the gut.
