摘要
Mechanical behaviors of smooth specimens and the notch effect on the mechanical properties of the notch bar are examined using the tensile test and the Charpy impact test. The tensile strength of the Ti64 alloy notch bar is higher than the smooth bar at room temperature. The yielding stress and tensile strength of smooth Ti64 alloy bar will increase with increasing strain rate, while elongation will decrease. The effect of strain rate on tensile strength and elongation of the notch bar is not significant. Although the transition temperature of Ti64 alloy from ductile to brittle is about 163 degrees C, it has better impact toughness at high temperature. Even if the temperature is lower at -50 degrees C, it still has a good impact toughness of 40 Joules. Finite element method (FEM) is also employed to analyze the local stress distribution of the notch bar, while the maximum strains and plastic strains are observed at the tip of the notch root. The stress and strain will be decreasing from the tip of the notch root.
