摘要
Reading competence is a fundamental part for the development of critical thinking in young people. Considering this idea, this paper describes the results of a research of a quantitative approach on value of know reading habits of a representative sample of students of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate in four different educational contexts located in Galicia). The study has focused, above all, on the analysis of reading practices from fourteen years old, an age, according to Reading Habits and Buying of Books Barometer realized by the Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain with the support from the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in which the interest in reading begins to decline. A study was carried out, a transversal cut, using a questionnaire. Once the results were obtained, a growing affection for reading is observed on the part of the surveyed students. In contrast, Galician adolescents are not frequent readers and they state that the time spent reading is not motivated by their own choice, but rather comes as an exogenous imposition. It concludes with an emphasis on the need to combine imposed reading with free reading.
