We made the ultrasonic measurements on the perovskite manganese La1-xSrxMnO3 (x = 0.12, 0.165) to examine the electron-lattice interaction in the system with both orbital and charge degrees of freedom. The softening of (C-11 - C-12)/2 above the structural transition point T-s = 290 K for x = 0.12 and T-s = 310 K for x = 0.165 is well described in terms of the quadrupolar susceptibility for O-2(0) and O-2(2) of d gamma -doublet of Mn3+. Elastic softening associated with the charge ordering of Mn4+ ions in a sea of Mn3+ ions for x = 0.12 and x = 0.165 is also presented.
