摘要
Ni50Mn35In15 is a newly found ferromagnetic shape memory alloy that displays exotic properties such as inverse magnetocaloric effect and large magnetoresistance at moderate field values. Since the Mn content in this compound is more than the stoichiometric (X(2)YZ) Heusler composition, the magnetic and electronic properties of this material are decided to a large extent by the distribution of constituent atoms in the available sites. In this work, we present extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements on the bulk Ni50Mn35In15 which reveal the local structural change that occurs upon phase transformation. The change in the bond lengths between different atomic species helps in understanding the types of interactions which are responsible for driving such Ni-Mn based systems towards martensitic transformation.
