摘要
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) involving membrane application was successfully integrated into the field of augmentative surgery 2 decades ago. Membrane devices applied underneath the soft tissue for separating the alveolar defect to be augmented from the flap are available in various conditions and origins. The aim of this paper is to follow the literature in regard to the outcome parameters, such as wound healing, volume change, complication rates, and the final quality of the tissue formed by this augmentative method. Since membranes may impair primary healing following surgery, data verifying the rates of dehiscent healing will be discussed. The outcomes of various studies confirm the feasibility and predictability of GBR, and the need for a membrane barrier with certain cell occlusive properties in supporting the clinical success of this procedure is also indicated clearly.
