Alumina/alumina and alumina-zirconia/alumina-zirconia joints through glass interlayers, microstructure, mechanical properties and residual stresses

摘要
Alumina and alumina-zirconia ceramics were bonded using Ca-Al silicate glasses and different processing conditions. In case of alumina-zirconia ceramics, the resulting glass interlayers were shown to contain anorthite and dissolved zirconia crystals. Glass Young's modulus and hardness were shown to be almost the same for all the investigated systems with only a slightly Young's modulus dependence on the crystalline phase amount present in the final glass composition. The results show that the residual stresses have the maximum value at the glass/ceramic interface which decrease with the distance from the interface.
