Macroscopic multi-branched carbon trees generated from chemical vapor deposition of toluene

摘要
The growth of centimeter scaled tree like carbon structures from catalytic pyrolysis of toluene, was studied. The experiment was carried out with an aluminum coated thermocouple in the tube center of a horizontally tubular quartz reactor. It was observed that via aggregation of carbon microspheres and subsequent restructuring, the growth of the carbon trees occurred. It was also observed that the complex carbon structures could be constructed by controlling chemical vapor deposition conditions.
