摘要
Acute, uncomplicated urinary tract infections are among the most commonly encountered bacterial infections. Management of these infections has been made more complicated by the trend toward increasing antimicrobial resistance among uropathogens over the past few years. This article focuses on the management and follow-up of women with acute uncomplicated cystitis and pyelonephritis. In particular the appropriate role for trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, fluoroquinolones, and nitrofurantoin in the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections is examined.
