摘要:
Steel sections are usually classified as compact or slender according to their bending moment capacity relative to the plastic or yield moment. This is primarily done by considering the element slenderness (bit) of the flange and the web against established limits. This paper reports on the results of finite element simulation of local buckling to assess the level of interaction between the flange and web when examining these limits. The results suggested that the impact of the web slenderness on the behaviour is minimal, and it is hypothesized that even beams with extremely slender webs can reach almost the full plastic moment due to the very small contribution a thin web makes to the moment capacity.
