摘要：

A nation's competitiveness is determined by the capacity of its industry to innovate in all spheres. The environmental sphere is one of the most topical because it is the pillar of sustainable development. The paper outlines the main trends for eco-innovations development and management in the EU countries and the role of environmentally friendly innovations for business and society. The analysis of the available data shows the growing role of ecoinnovations in competition between market actors and the further improvement of the growth potential of the sector. The main trends and prospects in strengthening the competitiveness of the local economy were identified based on the experience of the European Union countries.
